Born and raised in the Vaal, he has always been drawn to medicine as a way of helping people.
He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) at the University of the Witwatersrand, followed by his Master of Medicine in Otorhinolaryngology at the same institution. He went on to qualify as a Fellow of the College of Otorhinolaryngologists (FCORL SA) and is registered with the HPCSA as a specialist otorhinolaryngologist.
His interest in ENT grew out of an early fascination with the anatomy of the ear, nose and throat, and how closely these structures are tied to daily life. Conditions in this area affect communication, breathing, sleep and general wellbeing, so restoring them properly can change how a person experiences each day.
Dr Mzoto is also a husband and a father, and this shapes how he sees his patients. Illness rarely affects one person alone. It reaches into family life, work and school as well, which is why he takes the time to explain a diagnosis clearly and to make sure a patient understands the options available before deciding on treatment.
This same approach carries through into every consultation, whether it is a first visit for a new symptom or a follow-up after surgery. Questions are welcomed rather than rushed past, and a treatment plan is only agreed once a patient understands what it involves and why it has been suggested.
